Letter from our President

On Target – Some words from your President

A book from a librarian; how novel! I’m assembling a 28-page membership information guide which is intended to contain the answers to most if not all questions pertaining to our Club, not to mention rules. It will include: The Club: an Overview and Rules; Membership; The Range; Shooters; Tournaments; Targets; Officers, Chairs, and Captains; Current Range Records; By-laws; Constitution; Insurance; Conditional Use Permit; Palos Verdes Land Conservancy; California Coastal Commission; CBA, NFAA, and Hunting; and Lessons. Suggestions and contributions of content are welcome. When new members join (or existing members forget,) there is too much going on at either a membership meeting or before a tournament to get into lengthy but often necessary details. The guide should simplify it all.

On a personal side, my son Richie’s Boy Scout Troop 191 has done two Eagle Service Projects to benefit our Club over the last two or three years. And as a reminder, our Club is on land governed by the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy (PVPLC),) for which we pay virtually no rent. Richie’s Eagle Project is to create a trail through a proposed Demonstration Garden at the George F. Canyon Nature Center, also under the governance of the PVPLC. On Saturday, October 25th, he’ll need manpower (in addition to Scout-power) and about $500 in supplies; members of South Bay Archery Club who came to the last membership meeting already made generous donations totally $220. Eagle Projects that help our community are not supposed to be entirely parent-funded; the boys are supposed to solicit donations, and it was suggested to me to put something in this newsletter, in case any other Club members would like to support his project. The money will go toward the purchase of redwood header boards and other lumber, as well as the rental of Vibra Plate machines and food for volunteers. A PVPLC grant is funding the decomposed granite.

Our Club has over 50 3-D targets, but no 3-D tournaments scheduled till spring of 2009. If any member would like to take on the challenge of setting up and running a 3-D shoot, please contact Bobby Carrillo for details.
Extra archery stuff lying around? Dale Warren suggested an archery garage sale/swap meet. If this interests you, please contact me.

Keep seein' spots,

Paul Farbman
